Meet Up and Eat Up

Meet Up and Eat Up is a free summer meals program coordinated by United Way for Southeastern Michigan. It provides breakfast and lunch at no cost to children and teens 18 years old and younger throughout the summer months in Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw, and Wayne counties.

Please help spread the word when appropriate, especially to families experiencing food insecurity.

Men’s Veterans Peer Support Group

Led by former US Marine Corps veteran and OCHN’s Veteran Peer Support Specialist, Isaac Cortes.

When: Febuary - November 2025 THIRD Tuesday of each month 5:30 - 7 p.m.

Location: CNS Healthcare, 279 Summit Drive, Waterford, MI 48328

Benefits of the support group:

• Offer an opportunity to meet with other veterans to discuss a wide array of topics and issues that veterans face, post military service and transition.
• Provide an opportunity for veterans to network and connect with other veterans.
• Discuss best practices and approaches to receiving benefits.

Veteran Spouse’s Peer Support Group

Veteran Spouses’ needs are often overlooked and overshadowed by those of the Veteran, but the fact is that we transition and struggle too and deserve to have access to support and resources so that we can better support our Veterans and families.

Meetings will be held the last Tuesday of each month Starting January 28, 2025 5:30-7:00PM

Location: CNS Healthcare, 279 Summit Drive, Waterford, MI 48328 Visingardi Conference Room

Each week the group will cover a different topic:

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Traumatic Brain Injury Anxiety/Depression Substance Use Domestic Violence

Harm Reduction and Syringe Services

In an effort to help people make healthier choices to prevent overdoses, HIV and Hepatitis C, the Oakland County Health Department is offering the following:

• Free and confidential STI, rapid HIV and rapid Hepatitis C testing
• Referral and linkage to substance use treatment
• Overdose education and Narcan kits
• Free condoms, sterile syringes, injecting drug equipment/works and disposal services
• Referral and linkage to medical care and prevention, including HIP PrEP, nPEP and treatment of Hepatitis C
• Education and risk reduction counseling
• Peer Support Coach Services
• Community resources and assistance with Medicaid Enrollment
• Basic Wound care
• Free hygiene supplies
• Food Bank
• Free vaccines

Harm reduction and syringe services are available Monday thru Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm at the Oakland County Health Department located at 148 North Saginaw Street, Pontiac, Michigan 48342.

Voter Eligibility

Many people believe that if you are detained in jail during an election you cannot vote. However, this is not true! You have the full legal right to vote while you are detained in jail so long as you are not currently serving a sentence. Your vote and your voice matter!

In fact, you are eligible to register and vote in Michigan even if:

• You have a felony record.
• You are on probation, parole, or tether.
• You are awaiting arraignment, trial, or sentencing, regardless of your incarceration status.
• Your housing is unstable.
• You have a disability.
• You do not have a Michigan ID.

If you are eligible, Michigan law requires that you must be provided with access to vote in jail. Contact a VAAC voting ambassador at contact@votingaccessforall.org for the materials you need to vote!

APPR Partnership

Oakland County Pretrial & Justice Services is proud to announce that acceptance of a one-year technical assistance collaboration with Advancing Pretrial, Policy, and Research (APPR) which will kick off in June of 2023. The project will involve representatives from Oakland County Corporation Counsel, the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office, Oakland County jail administration, the Sheriff's Department, Pretrial & Justice Services, the Michigan Indigent Defense Commission, a senior criminal defense attorney, and a justice impacted individual. The program will target many initiatives including increasing collaboration with stakeholders, developing pretrial decision tools, evaluating policies and practices to reduce racial and ethnic disparities, create internal and external communication strategies, and to expand pretrial support programming.

Free Naloxone Kits

In an effort to reduce the harms caused by the opioid crisis, Pretrial & Justice Services is providing access to free Naloxone kits. These kits are available at Pretrial & Justice Services Main Office located at 250 Elizabeth Lake Road, Pontiac, Michigan, 48341 or at Pretrial & Justice Services Troy Office at 1151 Crooks Road, Troy, Michigan, 48084. The kits are in vending machines located just outside of the main entrance.
