• Establishes and formulates county policies
• Establishes annual county property tax millage rate
• Adopts ordinances and rules
• Adopts annual county budget and long-range capital improvement program
• Adopts the county development plan
• Adopts and enforces rules establishing the authority, duties and responsibilities of county departments and offices

Districts are redrawn every ten years based on new census data to accommodate changing population patterns. When defining new districts, efforts are made to keep approximately the same number of people in each district.

Yes, anyone may attend meetings of the full Board and four standing committees. Meetings are held in the Oakland County Courthouse located at 1200 North Telegraph Road, Building 12E, Pontiac, MI 48341. Board meetings are hosted in the Commissioners Auditorium and standing committee meetings are hosted in Committee Room A. Individuals will have the opportunity to address the Board during the public comment portion of the meeting agenda.

The following items cannot be brought into the building:

• Weapons
• Liquids
• Lighters
• Display of signs, banners, placards and related items

Public capacity for the Commissioners Auditorium is set at 209 people, per the fire marshal, and on-site overflow seating is available. Individuals may also view the meetings live via YouTube.
