Service Connection and Disconnection Applications and Water Hauling Permits
Connection and disconnection permit applications and fees for water and sewer systems, as well as water hauling permits, are processed through our office at One Public Works, Building 95W, Waterford, MI 48328.
We serve several cities, villages, and townships in Oakland County. Contact your local community to obtain permits and learn about the requirements for water or sewer construction in your area.
Service Connections and Permits
Appointments are required for new water connection permits and water meter pick up. You will be contacted to schedule an appointment to make payment and pick up your meter once your application is received. All payments must be made in-person at our office, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Surety Bond Information
Contractors connecting or disconnecting to sanitary or combined sewers, interceptors and any county drain work must be bonded, and the following documentation must be on file:
- Current $5,000 surety bond
- Liability insurance naming our office as additional insured must be on file
The surety bond is valid for one year and can be renewed by the bonding agent. The original continuation certificate must be submitted at the time of renewal.

Frequently Asked Questions
We offer three ways to apply for a water and sewer connection or disconnection.
- Apply online and have your supporting documentation, such as your municipality’s permits or bonding information, readily available.
- Print the application and fill in by hand. Next, upload the application at MIOakGov. You will need to include any permits or bonding information from your municipality.
- Call 248-858-0958 to schedule an appointment to complete your application in person at our office.
Please check with your local city, village, or township for any plumbing permits required for water or sewer connections. We operate and maintain the City of Pontiac’s systems and no additional permits are required.
If you apply and your contractor is not bonded or we do not have a continuation certificate on file, we will contact you to update the information. For water connections you do not need a bonded contractor. For sewers, interceptors and other county drain work, your contractor must have a current $5,000 bond. Additionally our DC-443 form must be completed by the contractor’s insurance company.
A dual meter is a secondary, separate meter that measures outdoor water usage. If you live in Farmington Hills, Pontiac, Commerce Township, Orchard Lake, Walled Lake, or Oxford (non-residential only), you are eligible for a dual meter. Contact the municipality for a dual meter permit and complete our dual meter application. We will contact you to schedule an appointment to pay for and pick up the meter.
An irrigation meter is installed in its own hot box, typically in a common area, and requires a separate meter and water main tap. A dual meter is a second meter for a home or business and does not require a separate tap into the water main.
