About the Proposed Project
Our office is proposing a new, centralized building in the City of Pontiac to support its water, sewer, and drain operations and better serve our residents and communities across Oakland County.
The proposed building would bring together key functions currently spread across six locations, creating a more efficient workspace. It is designed to support current operations while allowing for future growth and expanded services.
This investment reflects our commitment to delivering reliable, high-quality services, while planning responsibly for long-term needs.
Why a New Facility is Needed
Our water and sewer operations have grown significantly in recent years, expanding services to more communities and taking on new responsibilities. Several of our facilities are aging, undersized, and not centrally located, making it challenging to deliver services as efficiently as possible. As services expand and operational needs continue to grow, a new building will:
- Improve coordination and efficiency across our organization
- Support continued service expansion to additional municipalities
- Provide space for future growth and evolving operational needs
- Increase scope of services to address aging infrastructure

Project Timeline

Hosted an informational webinar for Oakland County's elected officials. View a PDF of the presentation. - Late Spring
Seek approval from the Oakland County Board of Commissioners to proceed with final building design.
- Fall 2026
Finalize the new building’s design.
- Spring 2027
Construction begins.

The proposed new building will consolidate six buildings in one central location. The new building consists of a 149,200 square-foot, two-story administrative office and field support space, and a 149,000 square-foot garage to house vehicles and equipment.
The proposed building will be located on the southeast side of the county campus, east of Telegraph Road and north of Vanguard Drive, on 38-acres in the City of Pontiac.
The total project budget is $154 million.
Funding will come from a combination of water and sewer bills, cash reserves, and county-issued bonds.
Oakland County water and sewer customers will pay an average of $1 per month.
