SOARR

The Children’s Village SOARR program (Status Offender Assessment, Respite, and Reentry Program) is designed as a short term, 30-day respite program for status offenders. SOARR is designed to help youth and their families develop the interpersonal, problem solving, and parenting skills needed to reduce family conflict. In addition to reducing family conflict, the SOARR program works to increase youth compliance at home and in the community while improving positive communication between youth and their parents/caregivers.

The SOARR program targets two distinct groups of status offenders. The first group are status offenders who are new to the juvenile justice system. These cases may need intense involvement by the Reentry Specialist to help parents and caretakers assess their family for needs, strengths, and barriers (NSB). Once NSB are identified the Reentry Specialist works with the family to match NSB with community resources. The second group are youth who have already been involved with the juvenile justice system, have an assigned court worker, and have current connections to community providers. In these cases, the Reentry Specialist will work closely with the court case worker to determine specific areas for the youth to work on while reevaluating the family’s current connection to community providers and to determine the extent of barriers or roadblocks that have prevented the family from thriving.
