Lane Closures Begin After Labor Day for North Telegraph Stormwater Improvements
The Office of the Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner has begun the first phase of a stormwater improvement project along North Telegraph Road on the Oakland County campus. The existing stormwater pipes are being replaced to improve the system’s capacity and reliability to better manage stormwater during heavy rain. Drainage pipes carry stormwater away from roads and other developed areas, helping prevent water from backing up and causing flooding.
Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner’s Office staff secured $1.35 million in funding from the Michigan Department of Transportation for this project, which supports a larger flood mitigation project, funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Future phases will focus on additional improvements improving water quality in the area.
After Labor Day, North Telegraph Road in the City of Pontiac will be reduced to one lane in each direction for at least one month. Residents, county employees, and visitors are encouraged to plan and use caution when traveling through the work zone. During this time, County Center Drive West and County Center Drive East exit ramps will be closed. Motorists will not be able to cross over North Telegraph Road from either direction. North Telegraph Road will remain open to traffic. The County Center Drive East intersection at Pontiac Lake Road can be used as an alternate route.
Project and traffic updates will be shared as they become available at oakgov.com/water.
