Adjournment Request
For all adjournment requests, please note that your case is not adjourned unless the Judge approves your request and signs an order. Unless you have a signed order from the Court, you are expected to appear on your originally scheduled court date.
Adjournment Procedures
Requests for adjournments are discouraged but will be considered for good cause. An adjournment request received less than SEVEN days before the scheduled proceeding will not be granted unless there is a verifiable emergency.
Civil Infractions
To request an adjournment of an Informal or Pre-Formal hearing on a civil infraction, please contact the Traffic Department at 248-528-0400, then select option 3 to speak with a clerk.
If requesting an adjournment of a Formal Hearing, you must file a Stipulation and Order for Adjournment following the same procedures as outlined below for Criminal Cases.
Criminal Cases
To request an adjournment, the defense attorney or prosecutor must contact the opposing party to request consent to adjourn the proceeding and then must complete a Stipulation and Order for Adjournment and mail, hand-deliver, or email it to the court at 524criminal@oakgov.com. All parties to the case must be served with a copy of the Stipulation and Order or it will not be considered.
If you are the defendant and you are not represented by an attorney, you must contact the Prosecutor directly to gain consent and follow the same procedure. Civil Cases
To request an adjournment of a civil case, please contact all parties of record to request consent and complete a Stipulation and Order for Adjournment. You will then be required to file the Stipulation and Order through MiFILE, the court’s electronic filing system.
