SETTLEMENT WEEK
Reminder that parties on Civil cases scheduled for Settlement Week must file a Joint Settlement Statement by Monday, October 2nd. Please refer the recommended guidelines attached to your Settlement Week notice. Statements and questions can be directed to the Case Management Office at settlementweek@oakgov.com.
In an effort to address the backlog of cases as a result of the pandemic, Sixth Judicial Circuit Court is conducting a settlement program for Civil and Family Division dockets. The Settlement Week for Family will be held Monday October 9th and Tuesday October 10th. The Settlement week for Civil will be held the week of October 16th and will occur on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SETTLEMENT WEEK
Settlement Week will be held in person. Attorneys shall appear with their clients, or representatives with authority, to conduct negotiations and settle cases.
The Case Management Division of the Circuit Court, in conjunction with the Court Administration and the Bench.
You have greater control over the outcome of your case if resolved prior to trial. The facilitator’s job is not to issue a decision, but to help the parties come up with solutions agreeable to both sides. Often, you can achieve a better result by agreement than one that is imposed by a judge or jury.
Your case was selected due to SCAO guidelines and case age.
There is no fee for the participation of Settlement Week. Your own attorney’s fee will vary depending upon what your attorney charges for preparation and representation at the facilitation.
- A $150 fee shall be assessed to each party for the untimely filing of the Joint Statement on Civil Cases.
- A $500 fee shall be assessed to each party for failure to file a Joint Statement on Civil Cases.
- Failure to appear is sanctionable.
Each session is limited to one hour. It is extremely important for facilitators and parties to stay within the allotted time.
Only the Chief Judge may adjourn or cancel the order to participate in settlement week.
If an agreeable resolution is achieved, you will immediately appear before a judge to place the settlement on the record.
If an agreeable resolution is not achieved, you will be fast-tracked for trial and receive a notice from the Case Management Office. All cases should be prepared to proceed with trial prior to the Settlement Week.
