The Sixth Judicial Circuit Court uses an individual docket system - which means a case assigned to a particular judge stays with that judge until it is over. There are instances - such as disqualification, consolidation, previous case - when the reassignment of a judge may occur.
As cases go through various stages, the Case Management Office sends computer-generated notices to attorneys handling each case, as well as to pro per litigants.
Most general jurisdiction judges use the automated order system for the scheduling of their cases. The order gives the following dates or cutoffs:
Instructions regarding ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution), proposed jury instructions and trial briefs are also in the automated order. The instructions direct the recipients to make objections to the order within 14 days of the date of the order.
The Case Management Office receives praecipes (requests for hearings by attorneys and litigants representing themselves) and schedules them for the miscellaneous motion call. Praecipes must be received by the Case Management Office no later than 4:30pm the Wednesday before the requested motion date. The Case Management Office will not accept Praecipes after 4:30pm.
See the Praecipe / Motion NavigationTab for further information.
