Oakland County Board of Commissioners approves up to $1.5M to protect preventive and reproductive health services

August 13, 2026, OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – At today’s meeting, the Board voted to allocate up to $1.5 million to the Oakland County Health Division to contract with Planned Parenthood of Michigan to support the continued delivery of preventative healthcare services to Oakland County residents. 

The two-year contract will extend through August 31, 2028. Reimbursement for eligible services will be processed at $206.53 per service, consistent with the county-approved reimbursement methodology, subject to the overall contract maximum. 

“We know that access to preventative healthcare is essential to protecting the health, safety and welfare of Oakland County residents,” said Oakland County Board of Commissioners Chair David T. Woodward (D-Royal Oak). “The Trump administration continues to take steps to defund Planned Parenthood, and today we took steps to prevent that from happening here.” 

Highlights of the plan include:

• Allocation of up to $1.5 million to Oakland County Health Division to contract with Planned Parenthood for health services through August 2028.
• Planned Parenthood of Michigan will receive reimbursement payments for eligible in-person and telehealth services such as cancer screenings, annual wellness exams, STI testing and treatment, contraception and reproductive health counseling.
• The Planned Parenthood clinic in Ferndale, Mich., will remain open at least through August 2028.
• Continued access to reproductive healthcare services for Oakland County residents.

“This funding for Planned Parenthood helps to ensure women in Oakland County have access to vital healthcare services in the wake of harmful cuts by the Trump administration,” said Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter. “I commend the Board for standing up for our residents and for ensuring that Planned Parenthood will continue providing services in the county for the foreseeable future.”

The Ferndale clinic provides preventative and reproductive health care services to more than 6000 Oakland County residents. Continued access for health care is the main reason for this proposal.

We are grateful to the Oakland County Board of Commissioners for adopting this resolution to protect the health services Michiganders depend on.”

In 2019, the Board of Commissioners approved $500,000 in funding to maintain Title X reproductive health care services through Planned Parenthood after federal rules made the organization ineligible to receive federal funds. Adoption of this resolution further demonstrate the Board’s commitment to strengthening the county’s public health infrastructure and improving health outcomes for residents.
