31 Community Health Worker Honor Community Health As a passionate advocate for the underrepresented, Jared Barnett has fought for equitable treatment for patients as a community health worker with Honor Community Health in Pontiac. Barnett helped organize ÒWalk & Talk with the Doc,Ó a unique program, designed to keep residents healthy and active: they walk around a local track while getting needed medical information from clinicians and staff. He also worked on HonorÕs National Health Center Week, which offered services for people experiencing homelessness, preventative health checks and behavioral health services. He also was a patient support technician at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and an intern at the Baldwin Center, both in Pontiac. At the center, he helped middle school students develop life skills and encouraged them to volunteer for the Pontiac Collective Impact Earth Day cleanup program. Born in Pontiac and now living in Auburn Hills, Barnett received a liberal arts associate degree from Oakland Community College and a bachelorÕs degree in sociology and is working on a masterÕs degree in public health from Oakland University.
