Alliance for Housing

Oakland County Michigan's Continuum of Care

The Alliance for Housing is made up of several organizations from the private and public sectors, and includes entities such as emergency shelters, warming centers, providers of health services including mental health services, providers of services to people with developmental disabilities, for-profit and nonprofit developers of affordable housing, administrators of supportive housing programs, municipalities, governmental agencies, faith-based service providers and more.

Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency (OLHSA)

Weatherization Assistance Program

The OLHSA Weatherization Assistance Program provides weatherization services to qualified Oakland and Livingston County residents. The program is implemented through the counties we service in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy and is designed to help residents live in energy efficient and safe housing. We perform a free energy audit and provide eligible repairs on the home for homeowners and renters.

Single Family Housing Programs

Well built, affordable housing is essential to the vitality of communities in rural America. USDA Rural Development’s Single Family Housing Programs give families and individuals the opportunity to buy, build, or repair affordable homes located in rural America. Eligibility for these loans, loan guarantees, and grants is based on income and varies according to the average median income for each area.

Mutual Self-Help Housing Technical Assistance Grants

Provides grants to qualified organizations to help them carry out local self-help housing construction projects. Grant recipients supervise groups of very-low- and low-income individuals and families as they construct their own homes in rural areas. The group members provide most of the construction labor on each other’s homes, with technical assistance from the organization overseeing the project.

Multi-family Housing Programs

Multifamily Housing assists rural property owners through loans, loan guarantees, and grants that enable owners to develop and rehabilitate properties for low-income, elderly, and disabled individuals and families as well as domestic farm laborers.

Housing Preservation Grants

It provides grants to sponsoring organizations for the repair or rehabilitation of housing owned or occupied by low- and very-low-income rural citizens. USDA will award a total of $12,200,000 in Housing Preservation Grant Program funding for the repair and rehabilitation of rural housing units. $2,200,000 of this funding is for organizations to help people repair homes they own or rent that were damaged in a calendar year 2022 Presidentially declared disaster areas ($50,000 maximum award).

Michigan is committed to protecting the public from lead exposure by working together with families and local communities to reduce or eliminate all sources of lead in the home. When lead is swallowed, it can cause health problems, especially in children. By creating the strongest drinking water lead testing and service line removal rules in the country, Michigan is on track to reduce and get rid of lead drinking water pipes.
