August 6, 2026, OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – The Oakland County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications to fill one vacant seat on the volunteer five-member Oakland County Land Bank Authority board. Qualified candidates for this role must be a city official, elected or non-elected, and have experience with economic development, housing, planning or real estate.
Land banks acquire title to properties — most commonly through the tax foreclosure process — and transfer the properties to new owners in a manner consistent with community-based plans that also return the properties to the tax roll. Oakland County Treasurer Robert Wittenberg, in partnership with the State Land Bank Authority (SLBA), the Oakland County Board of Commissioners and the Oakland County Executive Office, created the Oakland County Land Bank to support economic development and help revitalize communities and neighborhoods. Its mission is to enhance the county through innovative and inclusive economic and community development strategies while helping to facilitate productive reuse of land.
The city official position is to fulfill the remainder of the current term which will end on August 17, 2027. The Land Bank Authority currently meets every other month. Additional information can be found on the authority’s website.
The deadline for applications is 4:30 p.m. on Friday, August 21 and may be submitted online at forms.oakgov.com/79. Please select “Other” from the Board/Committee/Commission drop-down menu and type Oakland County Land Bank Authority in the “Other – Please Specify” field.
