What will a parent or guardian need to do?
Parents can take their child to their family dentist and have them fill out MDHHS-6067 no sooner than 6 months prior to the start of school. There are also screening events at Oakland County Health Division and throughout the community.
Who can complete MDHHS-6280?
A dentist, dental hygienist or dental therapist may fill out the screening form.
Is there a difference between a dental exam and a dental assessment?
A dental screening looks at the mouth for signs of dental disease. If disease is found, a referral is made or a dental exam. Only a dentist may provide an exam and a treatment plan to treat the disease.
What if my student has cavities?
They will need to have the cavities filled to stop them from getting bigger. A dentist is the only person who can treat cavities. The person who completes your child's dental screening will help with appointments for any needed follow up care.
