Emergency Alerts

OakAlert is a public service that provides accurate and helpful information to concerned citizens, businesses, and governmental agencies. OakAlert is a voluntary service and is at no cost to receive. Alerts will be sent via text and email so standard messaging rates may apply. Information submitted will be kept confidential and not be released to any third party.

NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards is a nationwide network of radio stations broadcasting continuous weather information from the nearest National Weather Service office. NOAA Weather Radios can be purchased for under $50.00 at your local store.

NWR requires a special radio receiver or scanner capable of picking up the signal. Broadcasts are found in the VHF public service band at these seven frequencies (MHz):
 

The Oakland County Outdoor Warning Sirens is an outdoor warning device and is activated when the National Weather Service issues a Tornado Warning or a Severe Thunderstorm with damaging winds at or greater than 70 mph for Oakland County. Citizens are advised to seek shelter immediately and listen to radio or television for more information. A siren test takes place every first Saturday of the month from March to November, with a few exceptions.

This is an indoor warning device that provides a voice broadcast of current weather related conditions. It will advise those with a tone alert receiver of severe weather watches, warnings, and updates. To participate in the Tone Alert Receiver System, persons or agencies obtain and maintain a tone alert receiver with proper frequency and tones. The receivers are small radio-type appliances available for purchase from $200-$500.
