Prepare to Apply
Submitting the online application or emailing your interest in the IAmPontiac program is just the first step in the enrollment process. Be prepared to provide your emergency contact's name, phone number, and email, as well as the types of jobs you are interested in. A case manager will contact you directly to schedule an enrollment session that fits your availability.
If you live outside the Pontiac area, Oakland County Michigan Works! has five additional offices offering similar work experience and internship programs. Find an office closer to your home to access opportunities with employers in your area for easier travel.

If you are selected to participate in the IAmPontiac program, which is funded through Michigan Works! grant funding, you will need to provide the following documents:
- Driver’s License, State, or School ID
- Social Security Card
- Birth Certificate
- Proof of Government Assistance (e.g., Food, Cash, or SSI Benefit Summary)
- School Schedule or Diploma
- Recent Paystub (self or parent if you are 16–17 years old)
- Completed work permit
- Additional paperwork that requires parent and/or school signatures may be required
If you do not currently have these documents, it’s a good idea to start gathering them now..
- To apply for a Social Security card, visit ssa.gov/ssnumber or your local Social Security Administration office.
- To apply for a State ID, visit any Secretary of State office.
Completing the online application is only the first step to the IAmPontiac enrollment process and expresses your interest in the IAmPontiac program. If you are selected for the program, you will be contacted with next steps for enrollment to attend an eligibility session at the Pontiac Michigan Works! office and submit required documentation.
The selection process takes place from March 30, 2026 to May 29, 2026. By You will be notified via email about the status of your Application. Please continue to check your email as most communications are sent electronically.
