Captain Thomas Vida, Jr. is the Commander of the Satellites and Court Services Division of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. In his former role, he was responsible for overseeing the Main Jail, East Annex and South Annex facilities.
Captain Vida was hired by the Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy in 1999. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2008, Lieutenant in 2015, Executive Lieutenant in 2020 and to Captain in March of 2021.
Captain Vida previously worked in Patrol Services, where he was assigned to the Orion Township Substation as a Road Patrol and School Liaison Deputy. During his tenure in Corrections, he has supervised all operational areas and also served as Commander of the Cell Extraction Team.
Captain Vida has received many awards, including the Command Officer of the Year, Sheriff's Distinguished Service Citation, Sheriff's Distinguished Unit Citation and a Lifesaving Citation.
Captain Vida holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology with a Concentration in Criminal Justice. Additionally, he attended the National Jail Leadership Command Academy and is a Certified Jail Manager.
Satellite Services encompasses the Court Services division, and is staffed by 104 full-time and 120 part-time employees, including a Captain and one Lieutenant, who provide the leadership, management and administration for the Division.
The Court Services Unit is a multi-tasked unit which provides security for the Oakland County Court Building. Hours of operation at the Circuit Court Building (map/directions below) are 8:00am-5:30pm. No cell phones/smart phones or tablets are allowed into the building if they are capable of taking pictures. When visiting the Clerk's Office, Treasurer's Office, or Board of Commissioners, the South entrance provides easiest access. Any entrance is suitable for any other business.
The Sheriff's Court Services also provides security for the following:

- Executive Office Building
- Prosecutor's Office
- Treasurer's Office
- County Clerk's Office
- Friend of the Court
- Probate Court
- County Reimbursement Division
- County Commissioner's Offices and Auditorium
- Ten District Courts
- Results Program
This Unit is also responsible for prisoner transport from the various detention facilities around the County Complex as well as out-county facilities.
The video arraignment system, OakVideo, is alleviating some of the need to transport inmates to the Court Services Detention Area.
Additionally, Court Services provides security during trials and special events on the county's complex.
